Wells' Cairn This tribute to Fred Marshall Wells, the founder of Wells, contains his ashes. Beneath a portrait of Fred Wells are the following words: To the Memory of Fred Marshall Wells Born in Whitefield, New Hampshire USA, August 4, 1861 Died in Vancouver British Columbia, September 1, 1956 Whose genius in observing and interpreting detail -unnoticed by most- and whose indomitable courage accomplished the first successful lodge gold mining in this district. A man to whom difficulties acted only as a stimulant; to whom the impossible constituted a fascinating challenge, whose anxiety was to push on - and last words were things to come. This cairn, constructed of the rocks he loved so well and containing his ashes. Erected by his friends and beneficiaries. "Lest we Forget" |
