Island Mountain Mines began operations on Island Mountain in 1934, under the direction of Newmont Mining Co. In 1954 it was taken over by Cariboo Gold Quartz Mining Company, and the mine closed in 1967. Between 1934 and 1961 the mine produced more than 450,000 ounces of gold.

This collection consists of items that were found in the Island Mountain Mine office when reconstruction by the Wells Historical Society began in 1996.
